Questions and support

Could not find the answer here? Write to [email protected]. We reply within 2 business days, in English, Portuguese or Spanish. If it is about a tag, tell us the model and its 8-character ID (in the app: ⋯ → Details) and send a screenshot.

Getting started

Which tag do I need to buy?

Right now, three Bluetooth models: Gicisky EPD 2.1" BWR and PANDA 2.13" BWR (black, white and red) and the 4-colour Gicisky 2.9" (with yellow). The exact listings, the right variant and the note on radio approval are at pingente.app/cases. Pingente does not sell the tag, only the app.

Does it work on iPhone?

For now, Android only. iOS restricts Bluetooth in the background, and that is what lets Pingente refresh the screen on its own. The iOS version comes later.

The app does not find my tag
  1. Make sure Bluetooth is on. On Android 11 or older, location must also be on to scan for Bluetooth devices.
  2. Bring the tag within a metre of the phone and wait a few seconds: it announces itself every so often.
  3. Check that the batteries are seated and charged.
  4. If the tag already belongs to another phone, the app asks for the ownership link: see "Ownership" below.
Does the screen update by itself?

Yes. When your phone is nearby, the app refreshes the faces that change, such as the moon, the weather, a countdown or the word of the day. Free faces update with no activation; paid ones only on an activated tag, and they stop updating on their own if the activation is revoked (after a refund, for example). Away from the phone, the screen keeps the last image: e-ink only uses power when it changes.

The tag stopped updating on its own (Xiaomi, POCO, Realme…)

Some manufacturers kill background services to save battery, and then the tag only updates when you open the app. In Settings → Battery (or Apps → Pingente → Battery), exclude Pingente from battery optimisation and allow it to run in the background; the app shows this warning when it recognises the device. Pingente's service is light: it polls nothing and only wakes up on the hour.

Activation

How much is it, and is it a subscription?

No subscription. Each tag is activated once, with a one-time purchase in the app (the price shows in your currency) or with a reseller's activation code, under "I have an activation code". 9 faces work without activation: Note, Wi-Fi QR, Art, Postcard, Motivation, Fact of the day, Verse of the day, Moon and Alert.

Does the activation stay on the phone or on the tag?

On the tag. If you change phones, give the tag away or hand it to someone in your family, the activation goes with it. There is no password and no login. To get your tags back on a new phone, see "Ownership" below: a recovery code, or a recovery account by e-mail.

I want a refund

Google Play purchases are refunded by Google Play; codes bought on the website, by us. The rules are on the Refunds page. A refunded activation is revoked.

Ownership: new phone, family, gifts

I changed phones

Two ways. With the old phone at hand: About → Your pingentes → Show recovery code shows the code that recovers all your pingentes; on the new phone, install the app and use Restore with a code. With the recovery account: on the new phone, About → Your pingentes → Recover my tags, enter your e-mail and type the 6-digit code it receives. Keep the recovery code in your password manager: without it, without the old phone and without the account, there is no way to prove the tag is yours.

What is the recovery account?

An optional e-mail and 6-digit code, under About → Your pingentes → Recover my tags. It is not a login: the app keeps working without it, and it does not replace proof of purchase. Our server keeps only your e-mail and the list of tags that are yours — none of the faces, notes or photos. It does two things: brings your tags back on a new phone without the recovery code, and lets you receive Postcards by e-mail (see "Faces"). To delete it, same place: Delete recovery account; the tags stay yours on the phone.

I want to use the same tag on another phone

On the tag, ⋯ → Share with another phone. Whoever scans the QR or pastes the link in the app can use the tag too.

I am giving away or selling the tag

On the tag, ⋯ → Release this pingente. It becomes free, activation included, for the next owner to adopt.

Faces

How do I pick a face?

Open the tag and choose the face: the grid shows the 37 faces in 7 categories, with a category filter and a search by name. Each face has its own screen, with the tag preview and its options. The full list, with what each one shows, is at pingente.app/faces.

How often does the tag change?

It depends on the face. Those that fetch live data (Weather, Headline, Tides, Quote, Soccer, Gallery, Carousel…) follow the interval you pick on the face itself, on the hour; daily ones (Moon, Verse, Word of the day, Holidays, Chess…) change once a day, on the first sync after midnight; Note, List and the QR faces only change when you save. The shorter the interval, the more refresh cycles on the tag's coin cell — every change uses a little of it.

What is the Alert face?

A free face that shows the official warnings in effect where the phone is: severe weather from INMET and flood and landslide risk from Cemaden, Brazil's agencies. The tag changes when an alert starts or ends, and the QR opens pingente.app/a/br with the full warnings. Only the country goes to the server; your location stays on the phone. Outside Brazil there is no official source yet, and the face says so.

Postcards by e-mail

Whoever wants to send you a card needs your address: the link or the 8-character ID from the face. With the recovery account, you can switch on Let people find me by my recovery e-mail on the Postcard face: then typing your e-mail in the "To" field on the website, instead of the link, is enough. Switched off, the e-mail reveals nothing.

3D printing

Where are the files and the print profile?

At pingente.app/cases: the STL files, the profile (3 walls, 5 top and bottom layers, 15% infill, no supports) and step-by-step settings for Bambu Studio, OrcaSlicer, PrusaSlicer and Cura.

The tag does not fit, or it is loose

The fit was calibrated in PLA. Materials that shrink more as they cool, such as ABS and ASA, tighten the pocket: use your slicer's shrinkage compensation or print a test part first. Send a photo to support with your material and printer, and we will help you get it right.

Can I sell the parts I print?

Yes. The files are CC BY 4.0: just credit pingente.app. To sell the tag already activated, see the resellers page.
