Terms of use
Pingente terms of use
Effective September 29, 2026 · Applies to the Pingente app (Android and, once released, iOS), the pingente.app website and the activation codes sold on the website.
1. Who we are and acceptance
Pingente is offered by Camilo Carromeu, an individual (sole proprietor) based in Campo Grande, MS, Brazil ("we"). Contact: [email protected]. By installing the app, buying an activation or redeeming a code, you accept these terms.
Purchases made on pingente.app are processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd ("Paddle"), acting as Merchant of Record: Paddle is the seller of record, issues the invoice, collects taxes and handles refunds under the Paddle checkout buyer terms. The name "Paddle" appears on the invoice and on your card statement.
2. What we offer
- The Pingente app, free of charge, which sends images ("faces") over Bluetooth to compatible e-ink tags. Some faces are free; the full kit requires activating the tag.
- Permanent activation (one-time payment, no subscription): a licence to use the full kit, tied to one specific physical tag identified by the code it advertises. The activation never expires, needs no renewal and follows the tag, not the person. It is valid for as long as the activation service exists and, after that, under the conditions in section 8.
- Activation codes: sold on the website in packs, for resellers and enthusiasts. A code holds a fixed number of credits; each credit activates one tag.
3. Activation code rules
- Codes are redeemed only in the app, under "Prepare tags for resale" or on a tag's activation screen.
- A consumed credit does not return to the code, even if the tag is lost or discarded.
- Codes do not expire, have no monetary value, cannot be converted into cash and may not be resold separately from an activated tag. You may, however, hand activated tags to third parties.
- Keep the code as you would keep a voucher: whoever holds the code can use its credits. We are not liable for codes you disclose.
- Refunds: see the Refund policy.
4. In-app purchases
Activations bought inside the app are sold by Google Play or the App Store and follow those stores' terms, payment methods and refund policies. The app only confirms the receipt with our server to record the tag's activation.
If the store cancels, refunds or charges back a purchase (including a card dispute), the corresponding activation is revoked and the tag returns to the "not activated" state: paid faces stop updating automatically, and free ones keep going. A new purchase can activate it again.
5. No password: ownership by key
The app has no password and no login. Ownership of an activated tag is controlled by a secret key generated on your device; our server stores only a fingerprint (hash) of it. You can share ownership with another device by QR code or link, and you can restore all your ownerships on a new device with the recovery code shown in the app.
Recovery account (optional). If you wish, you can link your ownerships to an e-mail address, confirmed with a one-time code, under "Recover my tags". It lets you restore your ownerships on a new device without the recovery code and receive postcards by e-mail, and it can be deleted in the app at any time (the ownerships stay on the device). The account is not proof of purchase and does not replace the rule in the next paragraph. What it stores is described in the Privacy policy.
If you lose the device, the recovery code and access to the e-mail of your recovery account (if you have one), the licence is not lost, but ownership will only be reset upon proof of purchase (the original activation code or the store order number). Keeping the recovery code safe is your responsibility.
6. Third-party hardware
Pingente is only the app. We do not manufacture, import or sell the tags or the cases. E-ink tags are third-party products, bought by you, from the seller of your choice, or by independent resellers. Sellers and manufacturers are responsible for warranty and regulatory compliance, and checking whether a tag is approved for use in your country (for example, radio-frequency certification) is up to the buyer. The list of compatible models is on the website and may change; activation is only offered for models the app recognises. Links to third-party listings are a convenience: a listing may change or be taken down without notice.
3D files. The case files and the embed module are free, under the CC BY 4.0 licence, and are provided "as is", with no warranty of fit, print result or safety of the printed part. Whoever prints, assembles or sells a part is responsible for it. Magnet parts use neodymium magnets, which are dangerous if swallowed: they are not toys and must be kept away from small children and pets. For the wall mount, use screws and wall plugs suited to your wall.
7. Acceptable use and intellectual property
You may use the app for lawful personal or commercial purposes, including reselling activated tags. You may not attempt to bypass activation checks, generate codes, interfere with the server or use the app to push unlawful content to other people's tags. The app, the Pingente brand and the website are ours; published case files carry the licence stated next to them.
8. Warranties, limits of liability and discontinuation of the service
The app is provided "as is". We do our best to keep the activation service running, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability. Faces that rely on third-party data (weather, exchange rates, trends, alerts, sports, prediction markets, events and the like) may change or be discontinued if their source disappears or changes its conditions, and this does not entitle you to a refund.
Discontinuation. We may discontinue the activation service. In that case: (a) we will give at least 90 days' notice on the website and in the app; (b) before shutdown, we will publish a final version of the app that keeps every already-activated tag working without a server, with the faces that do not depend on third-party services; (c) anyone who bought an activation in the 12 months before the notice may request, within 90 days of the notice, a refund proportional to the time remaining in those 12 months; (d) unused code credits will be refunded at the price paid, in proportion to the remaining credits. Once these steps are fulfilled, the discontinuation creates no further obligation on our part.
Succession. We may assign these terms, the service and the activation records to a legal entity that succeeds us in offering Pingente, keeping the existing activations. We will announce it on this page.
Limits. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to Pingente is limited to the amount you paid for the activation or code in question, and we are not liable for indirect damages, lost profits or losses arising from defective tags, radio interference, app-store unavailability or misuse.
Nothing in these terms removes rights that the consumer-protection law applicable in your country guarantees and that cannot be waived.
9. Changes
We may update these terms; the current version lives on this page with its date. Material changes do not apply retroactively to purchases already made.
10. Governing law and venue
These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil, with venue in the courts of Campo Grande, MS, unless you are a consumer and the law of your place of residence (Brazil, the European Union, the United Kingdom or elsewhere) grants you a different venue or protection, which then prevails.
